We bought a house! Hopefully by the time this blog post goes live we actually own it, but as I’m writing this we are still waiting to close. We are however, living in the home! Which in itself is very excited. The seller has let us rent the home from her before closing. This home buying process has been totally insane! Between the market being what it is right now, and trying to buy a home with Adam and I on separate coasts this was a doozy of a process. I also highly do not recommend buying a house, having a wedding, and moving across the country all in one week. Just don’t do it! The stress will literally make your hair fall out.
Anyway, let’s talk about the positives and our new home! I’ll be sharing an empty home tour on instagram and tik tok soon, so stay tuned for that there. If you’ve followed this journey you know we’ve been trying to buy a house since the beginning of July. The housing market is very crazy right now, especially in the Raleigh/Durham area. We had put offers in on multiple houses, and this house was number 5 that we finally got accepted on. Ironically, it was also the only house neither of us saw in person. Our realtor toured it for us while Adam and I were on Facetime, and then we put in an offer. I had obviously been seeing all the homes via Facetime while Adam was in person, but this was the first home neither of us saw in person. It was such a cool moment when we got the call we were accepted. Adam was back in California and we were packing the cubes up with our stuff to get sent across the country. Literally as we were closing up the last packing cube and locking it our realtor called us to tell us our offer had been accepted. It was such a God moment!
To be totally transparent though, while this is super exciting news, this process has been so hard! Being apart while home shopping is not easy. Buying a home site unseen is a risk we took, and one that we are happy paid off, but still there are totally unexpected things when you do that. We had to get two appraisals done. The closing of this house has been delayed and we lived with Adams boss for two weeks before finally getting to move into the home before closing. We’ve had a broken AC for a week and half. Nothing about this process has been smooth sailing, but we know that through it all God has taken care of us and is providing.
Through all the good and bad about this process I am still so incredibly grateful that we are in the position to be able to afford to buy a home, and that we were accepted on one. Now hopefully we are on to the fun part of decorating and making memories!
This is so exciting! Congrats! I can’t wait to see more!
