As someone who does not like scary books or books that keep you on the edge of your seat this book was perfect for me! I don’t read many thrillers and I don’t like gore or spooky. Yet, this book is nothing like that. It gives you all the fall/Halloween vibes you could want with such a sweet touch. I’ve just started seeing it around the internet, and I hope it gets all the hype!

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches

by Sangu Mandanna

A warm and uplifting novel about an isolated witch whose opportunity to embrace a quirky new family—and a new love—changes the course of her life.

What It’s About

Mika is a witch living in Britain. Witches are taught to never show their magic, never be around other witches, and never to draw attention to yourself. And all witches are orphans. Mika is used to being alone and taking care of herself. When she gets an odd email asking for a witch to come and teach 3 young witches to control their magic. Even though it breaks all the rules Mika goes anyway and finds an unexpected family and a place she can be herself.

Why I Loved It

Everything about this book was perfection. The characters are so loveable and the little humans were written so well. I felt like everyone’s actions were understandable and you got the perfect vibe the author was trying to get across. Completely controlled chaos in such a lovely home. The magic and witchy vibes were there and you could just feel them throughout the book. It was so perfect! From magic tea, to brewing potions, and gathering herbs and plants and star flakes. I loved it all! Another major plus for this book is how diverse the characters are.

Who Will Love This Book

This book gives off vibes from Mary Poppins to Nany McPhee. While I haven’t read The House In The Cerulean Sea, I have heard that this book is similar to that as well. The major trope for the romance portion is a grumpy sunshine love interest which was also very very sweet. If you are looking for a homey vibe with unique characters this book is for you.
