Post grad life for most people is full of interviews. I haven’t done too many which I am extremely thankful for! I am blessed to work at a job that I absolutely love. However, now and then I still end up with meetings where professional attire is required. There’s something about office wear that most people find boring. I’m not sure why this is. When I think of having another genre of clothing that I have to fit into I tend to look at it as a challenge. It’s just one more way to show off my style.
So when looking for an outfit that is professional here are my go to tips and thought process.
- You don’t want anything too short. I typically aim to have a dress or skirt at my knee. Here I am wearing flats, but if I were to put on heels the skirt length would still be appropriate. Anything above the knee will look even shorter when heels are added.
- Color is an okay thing. When you first thing of office wear I feel like neutrals are what come to my mind. Black, tan, navy. However that doesn’t have to be the case. You can have some fun by adding a pop of color or pattern pants even. Show off your style but still look classy.
- The bend and check. I don’t know about you but this was always a rule in our house when we got new clothes and I think it especially applies when aiming to look professional. Bend over and make sure you can not see down your top or up your dress/skirt. When working in an office people will sometimes be standing while you are sitting at your desk. This gives them a height advantage and you never know what they can see from up there so always check.
What are your go to professional looks or tips?
I love business casual attire! I don’t think it’s boring at all. Fancy, but not too over the top. This outfit is adorable. I really like the “bend and check,” I will remember that one!
