J. Crew City Coat Review

Being the type of girl that I am I bought this J. Crew City Coat about 5 or 6 years ago because it was on major sale and I came across it in a J. Crew Factory Store. It was such a good deal and I just couldn’t pass it up. At the time I was still living in Southern California and had ZERO need for a coat. Let alone a wool coat, but I bought it anyway and I am so glad I did! This coat is amazing for so many reasons! Now that I live on the East Coast I’ve worn it a number of times, and have even brought it with me when traveling. So let’s talk about why it’s one of J. Crew’s best selling coats, why they bring it back year after year, and why I think it’s worth investing in.

Coat

Sizing/Fit

Everyone I know who owns this coat says it fits true to size and I would have to agree. The thing to keep in mind is that the coat is not meant to fit snug. It has a boxier fit and it is suppose to. In these photo’s you can see it hangs a little since I am wearing it with just a blouse, but when you layer it over a chunky sweater it fits more snug.

The other thing I think that is of note is that the length hits about midthigh.

Colors

While I love a good neutral the City Coat does come in a variety of colors. If you prefer to have your coat be the pop of color for your outfit than they have those options too.

Warmth

The J.Crew City Coat is a wool blend that is very warm. I, obviously, haven’t lived in a place with extreme winters, but this has been perfect for our mild North Carolina snow, and even when traveling in the winter. The wool aspect keeps the wind from cutting through, and the zipper is almost the full length of the coat so you can keep it fully closed.

Classic and Versatile

As I mentioned at the start, this coat continues to be in style. I think that is one of the best reasons to invest in it. Not to mention the price is very affordable compared to other coat brands. If you stick to a neutral color that matches with a variety of outfits then you can wear this coat year after year and never feel out of style.
