Budget Friendly Christmas Decor

Decorating for Christmas is just so fun! I love doing it with my family, and it was so cool to also get to decorate my own space this year. Even though both my sister and I don’t live at home anymore we still go over to my parents house and decorated as a family. My mom purged so many of her boxes and passed some stuff (especially ornaments) off to the two of us. However, decorating your own house can get expensive! I wanted so many things this year but knew I had to resist. As my husband said “You can’t have 20 years of Christmas things in year 1.”

In one of the rentals I lived in we had a fire place which is like a dream come true! First house I’ve ever lived in that has one. I was so excited knowing I could get a garland for it. Michael’s does 50% off their Christmas decor which is where I scored this one. I also bought a magnolia leaf one that Carly talked about. This year I went on the hunt for Targets little white houses earlier than last year. I found that if you wait to long for Target Christmas decor it sells out. Last year I settled with the galvanized ones. I think a mix of both actually turned out pretty cute.

In years past I really focused on the mantle. This year I created a “mantle” on our entry table. It’s the first thing you see when you walk in the house. I chose the houses and garland knowing once I moved I could use them in different locations as well. I think picking one piece of the house to buy for that first year was key. It limited my spending, and kept my ideas from getting to out of control.
