5 Ways I Save Money While Shopping Online

Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world where you don’t look at the price tag? To walk into a store, shop, check out, and never worry about money? Who wouldn’t want that?! Reality is that you probably don’t get to live that way, and neither do I. I will do anything to save a few dollars. Target’s brand is 15 cents more than the original? You bet I chose the cheaper one. I don’t know why that 15 cents matters, but it matters!

The world today has made online shopping from our couches incredibly convenient. It isn’t even just clothes or toys you can get online anymore! We get our groceries delivered, stores have curb side pick up if you can’t wait for that two day shipping and you don’t even have to get out of your car!

I am a huge online shopper but am also always on a budget. I hate paying for shipping or full price for anything. So how do I pinch my pennies? Well let me share my best tips for saving money while online shopping.

Honey

Meet the best online shopping tool you didn’t know you needed. Honey is a browser extension that searches the web for active discount codes or coupons and then applies them during the check out process to the items in your cart. There’s almost always coupon codes out there that we don’t know about and Honey finds them. I basically use the Honey app every time I shop!

Wikibuy

This is basically the same thing as Honey, just another company. I have had situation where one finds a coupon the other didn’t so I usually check both. Honey to me works better, but I’m still fairly new to Wikibuy.

Let An Item Sit In Your Cart

While this theory does not work for every store it does work for some. If you add an item to your cart and then wait a few days you could possibly get a “Missing something?” email with a coupon. Some stores do it, some don’t but its worth a try if you don’t mind waiting a few days.

Reward Programs

Most stores offer some sort of reward program. You can create an account for free (usually) and get a coupon code sent directly to your email. (*Extra Tip* create multiple accounts with multiple emails to get that new code every time) When you keep the same email and account at a store you shop frequently at over time you can get free discounts or other perks.

Get That Free Shipping

I hate when stores do not offer free shipping (*cough*Nordstrom Rack*cough*)! If a store offers free shipping and free returns hop on that! If there isn’t free returns I try to shop at places that I have near my location to do in store returns. Sometimes that means buying $100 worth of shoes to try on to get the free shipping and then returning all the ones I don’t want in store. (Yes, I recently did this with Nordstrom Rack) It’s not always possible to return it in stores, but if they offer free shipping both ways then order more than you want and send back what you didn’t need.

YESSS Honey is the best and I always unintentionally do the ‘missing something?’ tactic because I’m so indecisive lol. But love that it almost always results in a coupon!

Retail Me Not does some coupons well, but honey searches the whole web. It’s totally worth it to install!
